Caring for Sterling Silver

Sterling silver can tarnish over time when exposed to air, moisture, or chemicals. To maintain its shine, store pieces in a dry, airtight container or anti-tarnish pouch. Clean regularly with a soft polishing cloth made for silver. For deeper cleaning, wash gently with mild soap and warm water, then dry thoroughly. Avoid contact with harsh chemicals, perfumes, and chlorinated water. Wearing your silver often can help prevent tarnish, as the natural oils from your skin can keep it looking bright.

Caring for Gilded Silver

Gilded silver, also known as silver-gilt, is silver coated with a thin layer of gold. To preserve its beauty, avoid abrasive cleaners or polishing cloths, as these can wear away the gold layer. Instead, gently dust with a soft, dry cloth. If necessary, clean with mild, soapy water and rinse carefully—never soak. Dry thoroughly with a soft, lint-free cloth. Always store gilt silver in a dry, tarnish-resistant environment, away from direct sunlight and humidity.

  • Do not use abrasive cleaners or polishing compounds — they can remove the delicate gold layer.

  • Do not soak the jewelry in water, especially hot or salty water.

  • Do not expose the jewelry to perfumes, lotions, or hairspray — chemicals can cause tarnishing or damage.

  • Do not wear gilded silver jewelry while swimming, bathing, or exercising.
